Judy Glen's musical theatre credits
include the role of Sister Bertha in the MICHAEL EDGLEY ENTERTAINMENT
national tour of THE SOUND OF MUSIC in 1983, Lady Battersby
in JC WILLIAMSON's national tour, between 1985 and 1986, of ME
& MY GIRL, playing Cousin Hebe opposite Paul Eddington
in the VICTORIA STATE OPERA's HMS PINAFORE in 1986 and
1987, performances which saw her nominated for a GREENROOM AWARD
for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, The Housekeeper opposite
Daryl Somers in the VICTORIAN ARTS CENTRE and QUEENSLAND PERFORMING

& MY GIRL.
She
was a member of THE AUSTRALIAN OPERA's schools' touring company
between 1978 and 1980 and has recently developed a reputation
as a performer of new music theatre, appearing in SYDNEY METROPOLITAN
OPERA's BEACH DREAMING on its seven week tour during 1992
and as Telethusia, in the MUSIC THEATRE SYDNEY premiere
production of Elena Katz-Chernin's opera, IPHIS, at the
BANGARRA DANCE THEATRE in Sydney.
It is as a concert artist that Judy Glen
has perhaps enjoyed her most popular success. She appeared in
concerts with the QUEENSLAND POPS ORCHESTRA at the EXPO FINALE
in Brisbane in 1988, and with the CANBERRA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
on the lawns of GOVERNMENT HOUSE in Canberra
in 1989 in a concert program of her own devising entitled A
COMEDY OF ARIAS, a program she repeated in 1990 with
the QUEENSLAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. She was soloist with the MELBOURNE
SYMPHONY in the MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL during
1989, in Viennese and Broadway programs with the QUEENSLAND POPS
ORCHESTRA and in Christmas concerts with the CHRISTCHURCH SYMPHONY
ORCHESTRA during 1990 and in a LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS
program for the QUEENSLAND POPS ORCHESTRA in 1992.
Judy
Glen has achieved enormous success with her own SPAGHETTI OPERA
program (now re-named A COMEDY OF ARIAS)
with which she was invited to appear in the 1992 program of the
WARANA FESTIVAL in Brisbane on the BRISBANE RIVER STAGE with the
QUEENSLAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, on the lawns of GOVERNMENT HOUSE
in Canberra with the CANBERRA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, with the TASMANIAN
SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and with the ADELAIDE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, all
during 1995 and with the PENRITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA in 1996. Her
own YOU BEAUT THE OZZIE SHOW has seen her appear as guest
artist with the PENRITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and, in 1996, with
the TASMANIAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. Of these appearances with the
orchestras, THE MERCURY newspaper in Hobart has written: "Glen
... a quality soprano voice that effortlessly fills the Odeon
... the success of the show lies in the quality of the performance
and the clever juxtaposition of high-brow culture with low-brow
humour ..." while the CANBERRA TIMES has said: "A
witty satire of rare insight. ... she brings to her performance
a voice of operatic range and strength, displaying its tonal qualities
in the occasional 'straight' rendition such as expressively sung
Summertime ... Spaghetti Opera is a witty, brilliantly performed
and hugely amusing show which had the first night audience constantly
convulsed with laughter. The DAILY TELEGRAPH in Sydney has
written: "A few people can sing like a dream, and some
can make you laugh ... Judy Glen can do both”" while
OPERA-OPERA has reviewed her performances saying: "...
her performance is so consistently sensitive in purely musical
terms that it can hardly be less than engrossing even to the most
sophisticated opera-lover.
In
its version for piano accompaniment, Judy Glen successfully toured

under the auspices of TASMANIAN ARTS COUNCIL and THE VICTORIAN
ARTS COUNCIL and touring A COMEDY OF
ARIAS for the NARPACA group. During 1997 she appeared
in SPAGHETTI OPERA on tour for the SOUTH AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY
ARTS TRUST.
During 1998 she made concert appearances
at CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY , toured A COMEDY OF ARIAS

MUSIC FESTIVAL where she also presented selections from another
of her one-woman shows, MEETINGS WITH MELBA & MONCRIEFF
and appeared at the CANTERBURY FESTIVAL, the SWANSEA FESTIVAL,
and at the ABERDEEN FESTIVAL in the UK.
1999 saw Judy repeat her Iphis success
in a season for Chamber Made Opera in Melbourne where she received
rave reviews - 'COMEDIENNE, SATIRIST AND SERIOUSLY GOOD SINGER'
(The Australian), 'LONG KNOWN AS A MASTERLY COMIC TALENT' (Melbourne
Herland Sun).
Then followed a 6 date concert tour of
the United Kingdom including her London debut at THE ROYAL FESTIVAL
HALL of which THE STAGE said, 'JUDY GLEN IS A DELIGHTFULLY
FUNNY LADY, A DIVA!'

West Australia and August her debut for Canterbury Opera, New
Zealand, in a Gala Performance of which THE CHRISTCHURCH PRESS

her acclaimed 'MEETINGS WITH MELBA AND MONCRIEF' in Sydney,
