The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company began in 1970 as a small group of enthusiasts which developed into one of Israels prominent dance companies under the direction and guidance of its founder, choreographer and teacher Yehudit Arnon. Arnon pioneered the cause of dance in the kibbutz movement with the establishment of a dance center in Gaaton and shortly afterwards founded the K.C.D.C., drawing talents from the various kibbutz movements. She subsequently pushed for international renown and developed close connections with choreographers such as Matz Ek, Jiry Kylian and Gene Hill-Sagan, who all created works for the comp[any. Apart from its performance abroad , the K.C.D.C. performs in cities, towns and regional centers throughout Israel to audiences of all ages, and was the pioneer introducing children to the magic world of modern dance with its special program for schools, presenting Beers highly popular childrens works. At present these works are widely performed by the K.C.D.C. Ensemble, founded in 1994. The K.C.D.C. enjoys regular invitations to prestigious festivals in the Far East, Europe, the U.S, and South America. In 1993 the Company was both the first chosen to represent China with the renewal of Diplomatic relations, and the first Israeli Company to take part in the Melbourne, Australia International Festival of the Arts. Over the years the company has undergone changes, and at present the K.C.D.C. includes both Israeli and foreign dancers. In performing the original creations of its Artistic Director, Rami Beer, the company has acquired an exclusive and unique character which has become its trademark. At the same time the K.C.D.C.s original spirit has proven constant in maintaining a quality of dedication and identification with the works performed that is quite remarkable.
