A CONCERT/CABARET starring:
HEATHER MacRAE, KT
SULLIVAN,
CRAIG RUBANO & MARK
NADLER
Four of New Yorks top cabaret stars who, between them have
won 10 Manhattan Association of Cabaret (MAC) Awards and 6 Backstage
(BISTRO) Awards come together to celebrate the extraordinary catalog
of RICHARD RODGERS just in time for 2002, the centennial of his birth.
This is the newest project by KT Sullivan and Mark Nadler who just
completed the highly successful, critically acclaimed and award winning
off-Broadway production of AMERICAN RHAPSODY (a Gershwin Revue
which they also created). They are joined by Craig Rubano, star of
the Broadway production of "Les Miserables", and Heather
MacRae, whose most recent project was the award-winning SONGS FOR
MY FATHER (Gordon MacRae). Her Broadway credits include the original
productions of HAIR and FALSETTOS. She brings a special
magic to the music of Richard Rodgers: the film versions of two of
his most beloved shows, OKLAHOMA and CAROUSEL, starred
her father and she relates anecdotes about the creation of these films
as she sings some of those extraordinary songs.
The evening juxtaposes the songs that
Rodgers wrote with Lorenz Hart such as "Bewitched, Bothered
and Bewildered", "My Funny Valentine", and "Lady
Is A Tramp" with those from the glorious Oscar Hammerstein
II collaborations such as SOUTH PACIFIC, THE KING AND I, SOUND
OF MUSIC and some for which he wrote his own lyrics are given
their due. Throughout the evening is peppered with fascinating stories
about the composers life.
It is a distinct, stylish, and tuneful
portrait of this most prolific of Broadway composers. In exciting,
fresh arrangements that enhance but never lose track of the musical
essence of each song these four powerhouse performers run the gamut
of musical emotions and styles from rousing comedy to heart-stopping
ballads. This show will leave you "alive with the Sound of
Music."
