RAMI BEER,
The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Companys Artistic Director and
noted choreographer, was born to a family of musicians in Kibbutz
Gaaton, Israel. At a very early age he began studying cello
and later undertook dance studies with Yehudit Arnon, choreographer
and founder of K.C.D.C. Prior to his military service he was accepted
as a student at the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company Workshop.
Immediately upon his release from the army in 1980 Beer joined the company as a dancer and choreographer and has created an impressive list of adult works as well as some delightful and highly popular childrens works. Some of his creations have become internationally acclaimed and Beer has been awarded prizes in Israel and abroad. He has been commissioned by various companies abroad and annually creates works for the Carmiel International Dance Festival. In addition to choreography Beer usually designs the sets and lighting for his productions. Despite the fact that some of his works clearly show his concern for social matters Beer has never used an ideological or propagandistic style. He does not claim to tell a specific story, or wish to do so. He seeks to encourage the viewer to connect to his own individual feelings rather than specific boundaries prescribed by the production itself or its creator.
As far as Rami is concerned, he feels the following excerpt from the Danish author S. Kierkegaard to be appropriate in what he seeks to accomplish through his creations:
" When I see a woman embroidering the Altar Cloth, with diligent precisions on each and every stitch, and maybe going over the same stitch countless times; I wonder if it would not sadden her heart is anyone were to look at her craft in an undeserving fashion.
That is to say, if one would see the pearls in the embroidery, or if one would detect some flaw or blemish, rather than viewing the work in its completeness. This woman found unimaginable joy in having reached the heights of her own precision; because in fact, this craft is meaningless and was not meant to be otherwise. The embroiderer cannot stitch a meaning into the cloth, for its meaning lies in the eyes of the beholder ."
